In commemoration of Armed Forces weekend each year,Colonial Williamsburg hosts a terrific event called Drummers Call. The Grand March begins at the Capitol with a rousing speech from Patrick Henry, who led one of the Virginia militias in 1774!
My back was killing me from much previous standing and walking, to the point of fearing I might need to make a trip to the emergency room. Therefore I sat on the ground on the "colonial sidewalk" on the edge of the street which greatly relieved the pain. Hence the unique angle for the pictures of each of the 14 fife and drum corps units. Being that close to the ground enhanced the vibrations of the booming of the drums which seemed to cause my heart to leap repeatedly in my chest. What an exhilaration!
The Grand March led us to the parade field behind the Courthouse for the Grand Review. That will be my next set of photos! Stay tuned!
